Background
The Elbe River
Floating through sheery valleys, passing ancient castles, picturesque old towns and beautiful natural landscape, the Elbe River is a huge blue stream of about 1.100 km starting as Labe in the Czech Republic and flowing into the North Sea far behind the Hamburg harbor. The Elbe River – the fourth greatest river catchment area of Central Europe.
The project “youth-4-Elbe” of the German organization “Deutsche Umwelthilfe e.V.”, wants to strengthen young people resolves for giving the subject river Elbe a serious thought and to realize their own ideas and visions about this topic.
For this reason, regular bilateral youth-camps inform young people about news concerning running waters, especially the Elbe River. Nature conservation, inland navigation, EU water politics, flood protection and sustainable economy are just a few exciting topics they are confronted with. Furthermore they can develop their own ideas and projects and present them to political and economic representatives.
The team “youth-4-Elbe” wants the participants to have a good time, meet some interesting new people from foreign countries and to have the chance for changing with little means something great for the Elbe River.
The international project “youth-4-Elbe” works together with schools from Germany and the Czech Republic. To create an atmosphere of friendship and fairness we want our participants to practice the English language. That is the reason why this website is going to be continued in English.
