Groupwork about Tourists in Dessau
Tourists in Dessau
Our group was divided in several sub-groups and the topic of our sub-group was ‘Tourists in Dessau’.
Many tourists visit Dessau because of the so called ‘Bauhaus’. The ‘Bauhaus’ is one of the first design schools. It is a modern house; it is built with glass, concrete and steel. Many famous people worked there.
The beaver station is interesting too. There you can see a beaver. Unfortunately the beaver was not there when we visited. A man who worked there told us lots of information about beavers.
Dessau is situated near the river Elbe. You can go on canoe tours from here. Our tour was
6 km long and took a long time but we all had fun! The weather was nice and there was not much wind.
The forest ‘Auenwald’ is famous, too. The forest is the biggest part that is still left of the ‘Auenwald’. It is really beautiful and riding the bike on its cycle paths is wonderful.
In Dessau there are many tourists. What does this mean to the city? The city gets a lot of money and many people work for the tourists. They depend on the tourists, but they also have a good life because there are more jobs.
What does it mean to the environment? There will be more noise, which is not good for the animals that live there. Also there will be more rubbish and more road works because they will need more streets, hotels, restaurants and so on.
In general, we think that tourism is a good thing for Dessau because the people here care for the environment and the city will grow bigger without considerably harming the environment.
